Photos - 1998 - Lunch on the Tropic

Teik, John and I had this totally brilliant idea that we would drive up to the Tropic of Capricorn for lunch so that we could stand there on the day of the solstice and go "Yep, the Sun's directly overhead". We drove 3500km in 4.5 days going up the coast through Geraldton, Monkey Mia, Canarvon, Karratha, almost to Port Hedland then south to Karajini National Park, Newman, The Tropic of Capricorn, Mount Magnet and back to Perth. It was an excellent trip.

Stromatolites/The stromatolites are an interesting stopover on the way to Monkey Mia
Monkey Mia/Monkey Mia is a holiday resort with native Dolphins that come in to be fed and meet the people every day
Karratha/Karratha exists to support the Iron or and Oil and Gas industries. Woodside has a large gas plant there.
Karajini/Karajini National Park is an area of great beauty that hides old asbestos mines for a bit of fun.
Newman/Newman is the town about 20km from the Tropic of Capricorn
